(Editor’s Note: As I approach age 60, I am “Counting My Many Blessings” by doing a daily countdown from 365. These are in no particular order, but, as you will see in days following, there is a method to the madness.)
“Everyday you wake up on the right side of the dirt is a good one.”
Sometime life can be expressed in a song and this one is a biggie for me (and for anyone else who loves life!) – When I wake up in the mornings, I thank the good Lord for another day of life, amen. Each day that I wake up on the Right Side of the Dirt I am grateful and count it as a blessing.
Despite the trials, the challenges, and the hard times, I am still alive to enjoy the smells of the earth, the sounds of the waves on a beach, the taste of a favorite food and to see the beautiful creations on this earth. I can bask in the sunshine. I can get soaked in the rain. I can hug my wife, children, grandchildren and friends. That is life on the right side of the dirt.
Every since I first heard my friend Antsy McClain sing his song titled “Right Side of the Dirt” to me over the phone a number of years ago, I have used the term. The following video is of Antsy and my good mate, THE Australian musical whiz Pauly Zarb, performing a version of his well known ditty. Thanks to photographer and friend Ed Polakoff for this video.
